They say that a picture is worth a thousand words
But, today I can not agree.

From my perch high on the rocky cliffs above the ocean,
A picture could not capture all that I see.

My camera sits beside me--poised and ready
And I--confused.

I ask it to capture
- the sound of the ocean breeze swirling around my face
- the feel of sand in between my toes
- the smell of hot dogs cooking on a nearby grill
- the taste of the salty air
And it--refused.

"Ah! But these things are not visual," you contend.
This is a truth whose non-existence I can not pretend.

So I stand tall and look to the West.
I can see the curvature of the Earth!
Excitedly I look through the camera--
It's not there... I begin to question its worth!

How can that be?
Slowly I put the camera away
And drink in all that I see--
I will not be taking a picture today.
They say that a picture is worth a thousand words... Is it?

Very interesting. A quandary that haunts many an artist, regardless of medium.
